John Wang

Pastor John was born in Taiwan and raised in Argentina. As a member of First Baptist Church of Flushing since 1988, he joined the pastoral staff as minister for the Chinese congregation in 2002. Recently he was also given the responsibility of leading the Spanish congregation. Prior to his pastoral career, he was a structural engineer specializing in bridge design.

John received his Master of Divinity from Bethel Seminary of the East and Ph. D. in Intercultural Studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He also earned bachelor, master, and doctoral degrees in engineering.

Upon his arrival to New York, John was attracted by the three language congregation model of First Baptist Church of Flushing. It was a natural fit with John’s experience with Chinese, Hispanic, and American cultures. Having been living in large cities like Buenos Aires, John is committed to urban ministry. He is especially interested in bringing the Bible, theology, and pastoral ministry to interact with the different urban issues like immigration, cultural and ethnic diversity, and social mobility.

John is also involved in theological education and missionary work. He currently serves as an adjunct professor at Alliance Theological Seminary. In addition, he travels to South America for short-term teaching assignments. John currently serves as a board member for two mission organizations.

John is happily married to Fanny and they have two adult children, Victor and Veronica.
